★★★★★ HBO’s Succession
Let it be known: The Paris End was ready to hate on the last season of Succession, and we were ambivalent about many episodes. We weren’t quite convinced by Kendall’s confident use of the word “vim” in his improv obituary, the Norwegian location was contrived, and the Trumpian electoral fraud gymnastics fatiguing. But we ate our words in Barbados. It was all building towards the finale, which was, honestly, epic. Shiv, you dog. Roman, you sad, damaged sack. Kendall, don’t jump, man. And Cousin Greg, you really enjoyed your meal at Old Palm Liquor? Our highest compliments are reserved for the chef: showrunner Jesse Armstrong. Armstrong got his start on the best UK sit-com of all time, Peep Show (2003-2015). Witnessing his rise to US fame with this in mind is kind of like seeing your mi goreng-addicted bonglord housemate end up on stage holding the HBO Emmy.
