★★★★★ Wet Kiss video

For years now we’ve been slavishly anticipating the release of Thus Spoke the Broken Chanteuse, the forthcoming album from Melbourne’s most legendary glam-rock-punk-cabaret band, Wet Kiss. It will finally be out on 27 June. In the lead-up, the band have released a couple of music videos directed by Sam Eidelson. Yesterday was “Skirt,” a follow-up to the howl- and moan-centric “Isn’t Music Wonderful?” Oh ja, music is wonderful, and so too is Wet Kiss’s frontwoman, Brenna O. The camera loves her. The city loves her. The comments section loves her. Everybody who’s anybody with half a brain cell and a taste for pearls loves her. In the “Isn’t Music Wonderful?” clip, bleached-blonde Brenna’s caught in the midst of a photoshoot, writhing on a mattress wearing fluffy pink tulle love heart pussy panties and thigh-high shiny black boots. A naked guy lies face down beside her. Suddenly, she’s dragged unceremoniously out of bed by unknown stalkers, thrown into a hallway, then thrust into a lift, where she is transformed into a scattered diva in gloves and bug-eye glasses. “This city is a singer in a limousine…” she croons, as she jumps into a gold-plated limo on Spring St. Various Wet Kiss band members are piled inside the car, popping bottles and wearing a striking synthesis of ‘60s mod makeup and forlorn alt-furry accessories. “When am I gonna be a STAR?” Brenna sings. Before long, we’re transported onto the stage at The Tote, looking through the gap in Brenna’s thighs at the punters banging their little heads rapturously. Count us among the adoring crowd.
